About

Director's Welcome

Welcome to Crossroads Youth & Family Services, Inc. We are so glad you decided to visit us. Our number one priority is to provide the best, most effective, and most enjoyable programs and services for our growing community. That means that YOU are our first priority!

Serving Cleveland and surrounding counties for over fifty years, our Emergency Youth Shelter first opened in 1969 for runaway and homeless youth. Now, we are a multifaceted agency with two major program divisions: Youth Services includes today's Emergency Youth Shelter. and Head Start/Early Head Start provides quality early childhood education for children from six weeks to five years old. Our shelter and counseling center are located in Norman, Oklahoma. While our Head Start Program is available in Comanche, Cleveland, and Pottawatomie Counties. Early Head Start is also available in Seminole County.

Our Emergency Youth Shelter, the sole youth shelter in Cleveland County, not only serves runaway and homeless youth but also clients referred to us by the Department of Human Services as a result of alleged abuse and/or neglect. Most of them suffer trauma as a result of their adverse childhood experiences. Therefore, we are always about the business of finding ways to help them feel safe, comforted, and empowered. Our Shelter certainly provides important services to children who are most in need.

Our Youth and Family Counseling Program offers quality outpatient mental health services for children and their family members. We also offer marital counseling to couples with children. These services are fully accredited by CARF International, an organization that oversees the quality of care offered by providers of behavioral services to adults and children.

Our Head Start/Early Head Start Program rejoined the Oklahoma Early Childhood Program (OECP) in Lawton which provides heightened levels of coordination beyond traditional programs. This coordination occurs with an external organization, CAP Tulsa, which provides consultation, ideas for training events, and other important resources to our program here at Crossroads.

Thank you very much for your support in our work with vulnerable children and families. We appreciate your help with volunteering, donating, and spreading the word about the Youth Services we offer.

We've been seeing Oklahoma's children and families for over 50 years, but every new child and family we serve is a new friend to us! Visit us on Facebook to stay connected.

Our Start

All Roads Lead to Home -Paving the Way for Healthy Lifestyles, Strong Families, and Caring Communities

Crossroads Youth & Family Services, Inc. was founded in 1969 when the first Emergency Youth Shelter in the state of Oklahoma opened in Norman under the name Cleveland County Juvenile Shelter.

In 1972, more services were added to this agency including probation, parole, and school-based counseling services under the new name Cleveland County Youth Bureau.

Three years later, the Oklahoma Juvenile Code was recodified, and the Cleveland County Youth Bureau created three additional entities:  Court Related and Community Services (CR&CS) of DHS (now called Juvenile Services Unit (JSU) of the Office of Juvenile Affairs (OJA), Moore Youth & Family Services, Inc., and Juvenile Services, Inc. (now known as Center for Children and Families (CCFI).  The Cleveland County Youth Bureau became Cleveland County Youth & Family Center administered under county government and overseen by an Advisory Board of community volunteers appointed by the County Commissioners.

The Cleveland County Youth & Family Center operated as a branch of county government until 2002 when the Advisory Board decided to form a not-for-profit organization, 501(c)(3), which transformed the agency into a full-fledged non-profit under the name Crossroads Youth & Family Services, Inc.  The Advisory Board in turn became a Board of Directors with full fiduciary responsibility for the organization.

Today, Crossroads Youth & Family Services continues to provide youth services in Cleveland County including the Emergency Youth Shelter; a variety of center-based counseling services for at-risk youth and their families, a variety of psycho-educational programs, a divorcing parents seminar, and other programs assisting children, adolescents, and their families.

Crossroads Youth & Family Services, Inc. also contracts with the federal government for Head Start/Early Head Start early childhood education programs in Cleveland, Pottawatomie, Seminole and Comanche counties and has grown from the first grant of $10,000 in 1969 into an agency with a budget of over $10 million today.
